Marcus Johnson makes commitment

Marcus Johnson, a 6-6 athletic wing from Westchester High School in Los Angeles, California, gave a verbal commitment tonight to the National Champs -- the Connecticut basketball program. "I loved the campus," Johnson said. "But what I really loved were the players. They got along great. They made me feel great and wanted. I really enjoyed that."

Johnson said he gave the phone call this evening to head coach Jim Calhoun and assistant Tom Moore. The Connecticut commitment left Louisville and Syracuse out in the cold. And Johnson felt bad about doing it. "It was tough telling them no," Johnson said. "They have great coaches too and a great schools. But I had to do what was best for myself."
