Volleyball: Cards climb to 15th in polls

After improving its record to 8-1 on the season, the U of L volleyball program rised to the school's highest ranking ever.

The University of Louisville volleyball team has moved up to No. 15 in the USA Today/CSTV Top 25 Coaches Poll for the week of Sept. 20. The ranking is the highest in school history.

The Cardinals were ranked No. 16 in the final poll of 1998.

U of L is 8-1 on the season and is coming off a sweep of the Wright State Raider Challenge last weekend where the Cardinals beat Wake Forest, Wright State and Morehead State. Head coach Leonid Yelin's squad travels to Knoxville this Wednesday to face No. 24 ranked Tennessee before returning home to host regional rival Xavier on Saturday.

The Cards are led by senior Bing Sun, who was named MVP of the All-Raider Challenge Team. Teammates Anastasia Yartseva and Lena Ustymenko joined her on the All-Tournament team.

The Cardinals are hitting a torrid .299 as a team and outblocking their opponents 3.31 to 1.26.
