Cushing Talks Louisville

5-star linebacker Brian Cushing of Bergen Catholic (NJ) has named Louisville as one of his favorites and recently spoke with ITV about his recruiting and interest in the Cardinals.

When Brian Cushing listed Louisville as one of his final five last month it may have surprised a few, but it wasn't a difficult choice for the 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker from Bergen Catholic in New Jersey.

"Right now I think Louisville is headed in the right direction," Cushing told "With them going into the Big East they will have a greater chance of getting to a BCS game."

In addition to Louisville, the U.S. Army All-American also listed USC, Miami, Virginia and Notre Dame as his favorites and said that he intends to make official visits to each.

While he was orginially scheduled to visit USC the weekend of December 17th, it now appears that the 5-star prospect will join U of L commit Darius Mann for an official visit to Louisville that weekend which means that he'll be in Freedom Hall for the Cardinals game against Kentucky.

"Darius is great," Cushing said of his friend and on the field rival. "He is so sure and confident of his decision to go to Louisville. He's seen [Louisville] and really likes it, so that's playing more and more a part of my thinking."

In his contest against Mann's Don Bosco Prep team, he recorded 24 tackles and a sack despite playing on a bum ankle.

"It's feeling a lot better. It's going to take a while to get to 100%, but it's okay."

Cushing also told ITV that he hears weekly from the Louisville coaching staff.

NOTE: Cushing is one of three U.S. Army All-Americans strongly considering Louisville. James McKinney of Louisville Central High School and Jerome Hayes of Bayonne (NJ) High School will also participate in the event.
