Huffman, Walker fall short against PRP

University of Louisville signee Jonathan Huffman was impressive against Pleasure Ridge Park Saturday night though Central Park Chirstian fell to the Panthers 75-70.

University of Louisville signee Jonathan Huffman made an impressive debut in his future home town Saturday night against Pleasure Ridge Park in the nightcap of the Super Hoops Classic.

Though Huffman and Central Park fell 75-70 to U of L football commit JuJuan Spillman and the Panthers, Huffman displayed his promise before hundreds of Cardinal fans in attendance.

The 6-11 forward, who is ranked among the Top 150 prospects nationally by most recruiting servies scored 21 points, grabbed 8 boards and blocked 7 shots on the night to help keep the Eagles in contention against a small, yet quick Panther squad.

"I'm very excited to come up here and play, and just try to work on a bunch of stuff, and try to get ready for next year and the next level," Huffman said.

Huffman made 8-10 free throws, to go along with six field goals, including one three pointer from the right wing.

Spillman, a two-sport standout that is generally regarded as the top senior hoops star in the state, was quiet most of the night and scored just four points in the Panthers season opener.

Central Park also boasted talented 6-5 freshman Martez Walker. Walker, whose father, mother and younger brother were in attendance, displayed flashes of brilliance despite struggling against PRP's fullcourt pressure defense.

Regarded as one of the elite members of the class of 2008, Walker finished with 7 points, 4 steals, 4 assists and 3 rebounds. He saw action at both the point and on the wing during the game.

"I've never played against a team that presses the whole game," Walker said. "We came out at the beginning forcing the action but at the end we calmed down and made it a game."

6-6, 230-pound freshman Allen Murray showed that he's one of the top freshman prospects in the state of Kentucky. Murray, who started at center for the Panthers, has a solid frame and more than held his own on the blocks and helped PRP with his ability to rebound.

Central Park will play two more games in Louisville season on January 6 against Bullitt East and January 8 vs. U of L signee Chad Millard and Brewster Academy. Both games will be played at Louisville Gardens and will provide Cardinal fans another opportunity to see both Huffman and Walker in action again.
