Lady Cards Advance To Title of Paradise Jam

The University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated Hampton University 63-55 in the opening round of the Paradise Jam on Friday evening in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. The Cardinals (2-1) will face North Carolina State in the Championship game on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Jazz Covington led the Cardinals with 19 points and 15 rebounds.

Missy Taylor finished the game with 18 points and nine rebounds. Rachael Butler led the Lady Pirates with 15 points.

Hampton used a 13-7 run to start the second half to cut the lead to two with just over 11 minutes remaining. The Cardinals countered with a 10-2 run to go up 45-38 at the eight minute mark. Hampton's Butler came out of a timeout to nail a three and then hit two-of-two from the line to cut the lead to 45-43. Taylor came down the court to nail her first three of the game and Olson scored in transition to put Louisville up 50-43 at the six minute mark.

Butler nailed another three to cut the lead to 51-46 but Covington scored on a putback to give the Cards a six point lead with just over four minutes remaining. Butler hit another three to get within four but Taylor scored on a putback to give the Cardinals a 55-49 cushion. Senior Angel Bradley hit six-of-six from the line to seal the Cardinal victory.

Louisville finished the game shooting 36.5 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from behind the arc. Hampton finished the game shooting 30.6 percent from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc.

The Cardinals outrebounded Hampton 47-29.
