Monday Morning Recruiting Blitz

A look at how Louisville stands with some of it's top prospects, including James McKinney, Derrick Williams, Earl Heyman, Brian Cushing and more.

This week marks the start of preparation for the Liberty Bowl against Boise State, but the Louisville coaches will take turns hitting the road and making even more in-home visits. Here's some of the latest from the recruiting trails...

James McKinney
McKinney returned from his official visit on Sunday and told that it "was a good visit."

McKinney said the most impressive thing about his trip to Ann Arbor was his discussion with Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr and where he'd likely suit up for the Wolverines.

"They said that they'd put in at outside linebacker in their 3-4 package and I like that. They also said that in goal line situations that they'd use me at tight end."

While it continues to appear a two team race between the Cardinals and Wolverines for McKinney, a new program has started to surface.

New Florida head coach Urban Meyer and his hiring of former Notre Dame assistant Greg Mattison as the new Gators defensive coordinator has caught McKinney's attention.

"I like Coach Mattison a lot," said McKinney. "I went to Notre Dame's camp and he taught me a lot. There's a strong possibility that I might visit Florida now."

Right now Florida, Michigan and Oklahoma are scheduled to make in-home visits this week.

Stephen Garr
U of L assistants Greg Nord and Joe Whitt Jr. recently visited Garr's home, as well as a visit to Male High School.

"We talked about what players were leaving and where I'd play. Coach Whitt told me that I'd be put at free safety."

Garr currently holds offers from Louisville, Indiana, Western Kentucky and one appears to coming soon from Northwestern.

"The coach from Northwestern came by my school twice and I'm setting up a visit there."

Garr, who recently won a Johnny Unitas Academic Award, will make an official visit to U of L an January 14th.

L.D. Scott
Scott told ITV on Sunday afternoon that Coach Whitt visited last week and the two talked about his upcoming official visit this weekend, as well as coming in and competing as a true freshman.

"He was telling me about how defensive lineman they are taking in and how it's up to me if I'll be redshirted or not, because someone is going to have to play."

Despite recent visits from UAB and Troy State, Scott still anticipates committing to Louisville during his official visit.

Earl Heyman
The Ballard High School product was expected to make an official visit to Kentucky this past weekend, but is having to reschedule. The UK coaches appear to have made a positive impact on the U.S. Army All-American, but Louisville still appears to be the team to beat.

Brian Cushing
Just when things started to look even stronger for Louisville with Cushing, here comes Florida and Urban Meyer and it appears that Notre Dame is back in business with the hiring of Charlie Weis as the Irish's new head coach.

Bobby Petrino will make an in-home visit with Cushing this week, prior to the U.S. Army All-American making his official visit to U of L this weekend.

Derrick Williams
The nation's top rated player by will receive an in-home visit from Coach Bobby Petrino this week.

Wootton, Roche & Mann
The Don Bosco Prep trio will all receive visits from Coach Bobby Petrino this week prior to their official visits to U of L this weekend.

ITV has learned that U of L is leaning towards bringing the 6-foot-7, 255-pound Corey Wootton in as a tight end should he commit to the Cardinals.
