"He and his mother drove up there this weekend," said Central Phenix High School coach Ron Nelson. "I've tried to call him, but they aren't back yet."
Howard, a 6-foot-5, 255-pound lineman, drew the attention of a number of programs after an impressive off season and senior campaign.
"He's really a late bloomer," explained Nelson. "At the end of his junior year he was 6-foot-2, 220-pounds and then he just blossomed. He probably has the best hands and feet of any lineman that I have coached in 25 years."
Howard, who is drawing heavy interest from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Troy State, was discovered partly because of the relationship and reputation of U of L head coach Bobby Petrino and assistant Joe Whitt Jr.
"We have close ties with Coach Petrino from his days here at Auburn and we really like Coach Whitt too, so that helped Louisville a lot," continued Nelson. "We look forward to hopefully sending more guys up there."
