U of L shows high interest in JR PG Kal Bay

With arguably the nation's top ranked recruiting class lined up for the 2005-06 season, Rick Pitino and the University of Louisville have turned their attention toward the class of 2006 and are showing strong interest in Tempe, AZ point guard Kal Bay.

Kal Bay, a 6-1 junior point guard from Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza, told us recently that he's been hearing from Louisville, Georgia Tech, Texas, Iowa and Arizona State, among other programs.

Bay, who took an unofficial visit earlier this year to Iowa and Georgia Tech, told us that location is not a big issue with him.

"I don't really care about that," said Bay. "I want to play someplace that has an up-tempo game. I like Louisville because they play full court, but also use set plays. Coach Pitino changes things up."

We asked Bay about the issue of early playing time and he replied, "I'd love to play early, but I don't mind going somewhere that I'll have to battle someone for time -- that's fine."

When we questioned him about other factors that could influence his choice, Bay said, "The coach will be very important."

Bay said one program has been particularly interested to this point. "Louisville has been down the most. I'd say they've been recruiting me the hardest."

Louisville coach Rick Pitino is scheduled to come to Bay's game on January 12th.

Bay told us he has a 3.0 GPA and has yet to take the SAT.
