PA receiver gets offer; wants to visit

While the attention of nearly all of Planet Red is focused on the impressive play of the Cardinals in the NCAA Tournament, the Louisville football coaches continue on the never ending recruiting.

On Wednesday, wide receiver John Maddox of West Philadelphia Catholic High School received a written scholarship offer from the 6th-ranked Louisville program.

"Louisville sent me an offer today," Maddox confirmed to Scout.com's Bob Lichtenfels on Tuesday.

Coming off a season that saw the Cardinals finish the season as the nation's highest scoring offense, U of L is finding that skilled players such as Maddox are excited by the high amount of interest shown to them.

"When I received this letter I was thrilled because I know they pass the ball alot," explained Maddox, who also holds offers from Michigan State, Duke, Penn State, Rutgers, and Syracuse.

Despite playing in an offense that features the run, Maddox, who also plays defensive back, still put together a solid season statistically as a junior - pulling in 23 catches for 505-yards. As a sophomore he had 40 catches for 717-yards.

Playing in West Catholic's secondary, Maddox, who attended the U.S. Army All-American Bowl combine in January, totaled 51 tackles and an impressive 10 interceptions last fall.

In addition to those programs that have already extended offers, Michigan, Notre Dame, Virginia, Iowa and Miami are also expressing interest in Maddox.

Last season he was named first-team All-Catholic Blue Division offense and defense, first-team All-City DB by the Philadelphia Daily News.
