Cards lead for FL RB Kirby Watson

5-foot-8, 185-pound Kirby Watson of Mainland, Florida is one of the top running backs in the Sunshine State. Watson recently received a scholarship from the University of Louisville and claims the Cardinals are the leader for his services.

Mainland HS RB Kirby Watson (Daytona Beach, Fla.) is one of the many great prospects from the State of Florida this season. As a junior, he helped lead his HS to a 10-3 record and a fourth round loss to eventual state champion Lakeland.

Watson currently has one offer.

"Louisville is the only school that has offered me so far," he said. "My Coach told me that Iowa, Ole Miss, and Illinois are close to offering."

Watson said that the Cardinals are currently his leader and he will take an official visit to Louisville. Watson was offered by Louisville through his high school coach and currently can't remember who is recruiting him from the Cardinals.

Watson hasn't taken any unofficial visits yet, but he had one scheduled to Louisville. "I had an unofficial visit scheduled for one of Louisville's Junior Days, but I couldn't get a plane ticket," he said.

He currently is planning to attend a few camps. "I'm going to attend the Nike Camp in Tallahassee on May 1st, as well a Louisville camp this summer. I also hope to go to a Texas camp."

There are a few factors that will play into his school decision. "The school I choose has to have good academics and a good football program. Academics are a must. Distance will also play no factor in my decision and I'd like to go out-of-state."

Last season, Watson rushed for over 1,000 yards and 14 TDs. He was second on his team in receiving yards with 500 yards. Watson also benches 192 and squats 500. The Mainland HS star was MVP of their game against Daytona Seabreeze HS which is Mainland's big rival. He was also selected to the All-Area team and won Player of the Week numerous times. He currently carries a 2.5 GPA and will take the ACT in June.
