Cards lead for Sosa, visit to U of L in the works

Two weeks ago, Eric Sosa said that his brother, talented Bronx, New York point guard Edgar Sosa, probably wouldn't reach a college decision until next fall.

A phone call from Louisville coach Rick Pitino Monday night seems to have changed those plans.

"We spoke with Rick Pitino last night about coming down to Louisville," Eric Sosa said. "My mother, brother and I want to come down to Louisville in the next few weeks."

Apparently, Pitino's recruiting pitch not only has Sosa on the verge of commiting to the Cardinals, but it's also struck a favorable cord with the players mother.

"My mother likes what Coach Pitino's talking about besides basketball - like the living conditions and the academics," said Sosa.

Is Louisville in the lead for Sosa's services?

"I would agree with that statement," Sosa said when asked that question.

Sosa said UCONN is also in the mix.

"UCONN spoke to us four or five days ago and we're waiting to speak with Jim Calhoun about setting up a visit," said Sosa. "But we haven't heard anything yet."

So what's the time frame for a possible verbal commitment?

"It's possible that Edgar could commit during or right after his visit (to Louisville)," Sosa said. "And he could commit before the visit."

Why has Louisville moved in front for Sosa?

"Basically their style of play is a perfect fit for Edgar," his brother said. "We'd feel honored and priviledged to play for Rick Pitino. Rick Pitino and Louisville speak for themselves.

Sosa finishes school in mid-June, and his brother said Edgar and the Sosa family will likely make their visit to Louisville before school ends.
