Scout.com has been singing the praises of Cincinnati (Ohio.) tight end Zach Meagher (6-5, 245, 4.7) for a while now. Today the standout from the "Buckeye State" made a verbal pledge to Louisville.

"I committed to Louisville today," Meagher said. "I spoke with Coach [Mike] Cassity yesterday about it, but today I made it official when I called Head Coach [Bobby] Petrino. I told him I have made up my mind, I spoke to my mom about it and I wanted to commit."

With offers from Oklahoma, Louisville, Duke, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Akron, Toledo, Northwestern, Minnesota, and Miami (Ohio), why did Meagher choose Louisville?

"I liked them for a while, I have watched them on T.V. a lot, I was down there Monday for an unofficial visit and I watched some film with Coach [Paul] Petrino, he showed me how they use the tight ends," Meagher said. "They'll only have 2-3 tight ends on scholarship when I am there and they expect 1-2 of those to become offensive linemen. So it's really an ideal situation for me."

Meagher has a very close relationship with his mother, and she played a large part in his decision making process.

Mom likes them because they're close, I kept giving her hints the whole way home from a visit," Meagher said. "I told her on the way home that it would be close enough to her, but far enough away from her at the same time."

The outstanding tight end is elated that the recruiting process has come to an early end.

"It feels like a lot of weight has been lifted off my shoulders, now I can relax and concentrate on my senior season," Meagher said.

As a junior, Meagher caught 21 passes for 358 yards and 5 touchdowns. For his efforts he was named first team All-Conference.

Meagher is the first known verbal pledge for the Cardinals Class of 2006.
