Cards 12th in Preseason AP Poll

The Cardinals enter their first season as members of the BIG EAST Conference ranked 12th in the first Assoicated Press poll.

Following the program's strongest season ever, Bobby Petrino's Louisville Cardinals have been ranked No.12 in the first Associated Press poll of the year. Defending BCS Champion USC claimed the top spot, followed by Texas, Tennessee, Michigan and LSU. Fellow BIG EAST Conference member Pittsburgh will enter their season-opener against Notre Dame 23rd in the country.

The Cardinals were also one of three school's to receive first place votes in the initial poll. USC claimed 60 of the 65 first place votes available, while Texas picked up four and Louisville receiving one.

"Louisville was the only one that I came up with as going undefeated," Joe Giglio of The Raleigh (NC) News & Observer told the Associated Press.

Louisville was ranked 14th in the preseason Coaches Poll.
