Smith plans U of L visit; adds two schools to list

Though Nolan Smith will visit Louisville next week, the 6-3 guard from Oak Hill (VA) Academy isn't rushing into a college decision. In fact, the son of former Louisville great Derek Smith said he recently added two new schools to his list.

Not much has changed for Nolan Smith on the recruiting front these days, but he's about to make a major change in residency after a short stay in Louisville.

"I'm coming down to Louisville Labor Day weekend to stay with my grandparents," Smith told Inside The Ville Thursday afternoon. "I'll probably take an unofficial visit over to U of L while I'm in town and have a meeting with the coaches."

After he leaves Louisville, Smith will pack his bags and head to his new home in Mouth of Wilson, Va., where he'll play for Steve Smith this season at legendary Oak Hill Academy.

"I can't wait to play there," said Smith, who will be joined by friend and AAU teammate Michael Beasley. "We play such a tough schedule and we play four games in Kentucky this year."

Nolan Smith said he'll likely make
decision this fall.

Smith said the Warriors will travel to Kentucky on three occasions this season. They'll play at the Marshall County HoopFest in Benton December 2-3 against Chicago Simeon and Canton McKinley, before a trip to Lexington Catholic on December 9. The Warriors will complete the Bluegrass portion of their schedule the following night in Paris.

Earlier this summer, Smith told Inside The Ville that he would likely make a college decision sometime this month. However, Smith said Thursday that he's pushed his timeline for a decision back.

"My mom wants to talk to everyone before I make my decision," Smith explained. "She doesn't want me to rush into anything. I'll probably make my decision before the season starts."

Smith admitted again that Louisville remains his leader, though he has added two new schools to his list.

"Louisville is still my top school," said Smith. "But I've added two new schools to my list – Kansas and Stanford."

Smith also listed Duke, Syracuse, and Georgetown as other programs that he's still considering.

"I'll probably take some other visits before I decide, probably to Kansas, Syracuse and Georgetown," Smith said.
