Eugene Sowell commits to Cards

3-star running back Eugene Sowell of Shades Valley (Ala.) High School became the fourth known commitment of the 2006 recruiting class when he chose to pledge to Louisville on Thursday night

Eugene Sowell, a 3-star running back from Shades Valley (Ala.) High School gave his verbal commitment to Louisville on Thursday night.

"I committed last night," Sowell told Inside The Ville. "I love the coaches there and it's a program on the rise. I like how they are always willing to fight for the win."

Sowell committed to Louisville over scholarship offers from Auburn, Clemson, LSU and others.

"It's a pretty firm commitment," he said of his pledge to the Cardinals.

Sowell, who made an unofficial visit with Clemson last weekend is planning an upcoming trip to see the Cardinals.

"I plan on getting up to Louisville as soon as I can," he said, adding that his trip will likely be for the weekend of the Syracuse game.

As a senior, the 6-foot-0, 200-pound back rushed for over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Sowell, who was recruited by U of L assistant Joe Whitt Jr., joins Zach Meagher, Troy Pascley and Anthony Allen as known verbal commitments for Louisville's 2006 recruiting class.
