Will Gator Bowl invite arrive on Monday?

Gator Bowl Chairman Mike Hartley told a group of the media just prior to time expiring on Louisville's 41-17 victory over visiting Syracuse that the Cardinals official invitation to the January 2nd bowl could come as early as Monday

As the final seconds ticked away from the scoreboard and with fans behind the Louisville bench chanting ‘Gator Bowl, Gator Bowl,' Mike Hartley, who is serving as the 2006 Gator Bowl Chairman, addressed the Cardinals pending invitation to the January 2nd bowl in Jacksonville with a few members of the media.

"We can't extend an invitation tonight, but when UConn beats South Florida, we very likely will give the invitation on Monday morning. That's what we've told Tom [Jurich] that we would try to do. We have to meet to make that decision."

You like the Cardinals that much?

"Oh yes, we love them. They are a great team with wonderful fan support, which is real big for us. We like to bring people to town and from I understand [Louisville] brings a lot of people. We are looking forward to a Louisville matchup. It'll take another week to figure out who will be on the other side. It could be Miami, Virginia Tech or Georgia Tech and that'll play out by the end of next week."

Talk about how the Gator Bowl

"This will be the 61st year of the Gator Bowl. It's a long tradition. Started out on New Year's Day. It's very well supported by the community. We are probably 20% ahead for our pre-ticket sales and I think a lot it is the fans looking forward to Louisville coming. We've known for awhile that Louisville's our team, so we are looking forward to it and I know the fans in Jacksonville are looking forward to seeing the Louisville team."

"We will probably announce Monday, but we don't know that for sure just yet."
