Conrad Thomas: U of L visit opened his eyes

Conrad Thomas, a 6-5, 338-pound offensive lineman from Douglasville, Georgia, currently favors Steve Spurrier's South Carolina Gamecocks. But an unofficial visit to Louisville over the weekend now has the two-star prospect seriously considering the Cardinals.

Conrad Thomas isn't quite ready to give Steve Spurrier and South Carolina a verbal commitment.

A 6-5, 338-pound offensive lineman from Douglasville, Georgia, Thomas admits that the Gamecocks are currently the leader for his services. But an unofficial visit to Louisville over the weekend has Thomas considering his recruitment options a little more carefully.

"It went great," Thomas said of his visit to Louisville. "I enjoyed myself and I got to meet all the coaches and the head coach.

"It opened my eyes. They have great support and facilities there. It's a great school and I really enjoyed my visit and the game."

But while the visit to Louisville opened his eyes to other possibilities, it's clear that South Carolina is the clear favorite to land his services. Asked if he still considered the Gamecocks his leader, Thomas said, "Yeah, for the most part I'm still leaning toward going to South Carolina. I want to play in the SEC."

Thomas said that the Cardinals are his current second choice, followed by Memphis. South Carolina, Louisville and Memphis have extended offers, according to Thomas.

Does either Louisville or Memphis have a legitimate shot of beating South Carolina for Thomas' commitment?

"Sure," he said.

Thomas said he'll take an official visit to Louisville Dec. 15, followed by an official visit Jan. 13 to Memphis. He said he'll reschedule his official visit with South Carolina.
