Quotable: David Padgett & Brandon Jenkins

Following the 89-66 win over Fairleigh Dickinson, sophomore David Padgett and junior Brandon Jenkins both talked about facing Miami and the upcoming start of Big East Conference play

Center David Padgett scored 16 points in Louisville's 89-66 win over Fairleigh Dickinson at Freedom Hall on Wednesday night. Following his 5 of 9 from the field performance, which also included 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks and 3 steals, the sophomore shared his thoughts on the win, as well as the upcoming game at Miami and more.

What are your thoughts on the team's performance against Fairleigh Dickinson?

"We were better. I thought we played well, especially in the first half on defense. I thought we did a good job of limiting them to just one shot on defense and we passed the ball well in the first half. In the second half we sort of gave up on defense a little bit and let them get some easy shots. Overall, I thought it was good for our confidence."

Was the team focused on improving it's defensive play coming into the game?

"We were just focused on getting better and trying to win the game. The last few days in practice have been real good, so we just wanted to come out and get better before we go down to Miami and then start with the Big East next week."

What are you expecting on just the team's second road trip?

"We now have less then ten days until conference play, so this will be a very good road test against a very good team for us. We just have to continue to get better every day as a team."

Was this the type of effort you were looking for?

"I think so. I thought we played really well in the first half. We ran our offense and didn't really breakdown at all and we did a good job on defense. We have to come ready for practice tomorrow and get ready for Saturday and then it all starts next week when it all starts to count."

How do you feel you did tonight?

"I felt I did pretty good. I have to keep working on getting rebounds, because I'm not getting as many rebounds as I should. Overall we won, so that's the most important thing."

Proving to be the most consistent player on the team – at both ends of the floor –guard Brandon Jenkins had 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in the Cardinals 23 point win. The junior also shared his thoughts on the much more difficult schedule ahead.

Are you looking at this weekend as the start of the ‘real season'?

"That's how we are looking at it. Coach wanted us to have a game like this before Miami. He kind of got hard on us because we were letting the guards beat us in the second half and Miami has some great guards, but he said we had a pretty good game."

Do you see this next game as a chance to see how much you've improved?

"The Miami game will show us what we really are as a team. We'll see if we're a good team, not a great team, but just a good team. It's on the road at Miami and they are a pretty good team. If we pull this one out, we'll be a good team going into the Big East."

What are your thoughts about the upcoming Big East play?

"The Big East is probably going to be the toughest league this year. Our first game is against Villanova and they probably have the three best guards in the nation. We have to have a good game against Miami to see where we are as a team. We're not looking at the Big East yet, we still have a game before that starts."
