Things on the upswing for Caracter

The pendulum is swinging upward these days for Derrick Caracter. After missing several games, the 6-9 Louisville signee is back in action for Bill Barton's Notre Dame (Mass.) Prep team.

KINGSTON, R.I. -- The pendulum is swinging upward these days for Derrick Caracter. The promising but enigmatic 6-9 senior power/forward center drew the ire of Notre Dame Head Coach Bill Barton last month for not buying into his basketball philosophy. As a result, he sat out a number of games from mid to late January before getting reinserted into the Crusader lineup in early February.

"I don't like to use the word suspension, but I decided not to play him because he wasn't buying into my philosophy about basketball," Barton reflected. "I've been coaching for a while at Notre Dame, and we have a way we do things."

"He's starting to come around to that way of thinking," he continued. "So he's playing more and is more productive."
