Big back holds Louisville offer

Scout TV player highlights are included in this update of 6-foot-2, 220-pound running back Daronte McNeil of Elizabeth City, North Carolina...

It's becoming a trend and a successful one at that. The presence of big and bruising back in the Cardinal backfield has become a common sighting since the arrival of Michael Bush in the fall of 2002 and since that time the U of L coaching staff has brought in similar running backs in each recruiting class since.

At 6-foot-2, 220-pounds, Daronte McNeil of Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, N.C., fits the bill. McNeil, who has the ability to run over, around and away from opposing defenders, rushed for more than 2,500 yards and 26 touchdowns

"I run with power and can make people miss," McNeil told on Thursday.

His impressive junior campaign has drawn the attention of a number of schools throughout the east and south, with a trio of programs extending early scholarship offers.

"I have offers from East Carolina, Louisville and Virginia," said McNeil, who has already made an unofficial visit with ECU. "I don't have any favorites right now."

Despite his size, McNeil is surprisingly elusive with defenders bearing down on him and makes a quick move to break arm tackles. He moves very well for his size, but needs to find that extra gear that could make him a very special player.
