"I'm doing a lot of stuff actually," Newland explained. "We've been working on my arm strength and speed after school everyday."
According to Franklin County head coach Donny Walker, Newland's determination to improve is paying dividends.
"He has been getting consistently better each year," said Walker. "He has a great work ethic and is very coachable. He loves to stay late and work hard - he's a great kid."
While Newland is hoping to transform a strong senior season into a few scholarship opportunities, he told InsideTheVille.com that a few school's have already taken notice.
Newland will attend the Scout.com All-American combine at Louisville on May 20.
