TE/LB Brent Slusher 'loved' Louisville visit

Following a weekend had that unofficial visits to Kentucky and Louisville on the agenda, Bell County TE/LB Brent Slusher spoke with InsideTheVille.com about his latest road trip...

Football is his life. Nearly every free minute that Bell County High School prospect Brent Slusher has is spent trying to improve and continue playing his favorite sport. On Sunday afternoon, after yet another weekend trip to visit schools, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound tight end/linebacker spent an hour and a half lifting weights, followed by two hours of running pass routes.

"I love football," he said. "I try to do this every day when ever I have the time."

Slusher, along with his father, spent the weekend driving through the Bluegrass State, visiting with both Kentucky and Louisville on Friday.

"The visit to Kentucky went alright, but I loved my visit at Louisville," he explained. "I got to tour the campus and talk to Coach Petrino and a couple of the other coaches. We talked about football – things like what they are doing, what position I like playing the most and stuff like that. Louisville's one of my top school's, so I really liked the visit."

"When I visited Kentucky I watched their spring practice, talked to a couple of the coaches and one of the players that I know (former Bell County teammate Dallas Greer)," said Slusher.

After spending the night in the Derby City he returned to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium to watch the Saturday morning spring practice.

"I liked the high energy that they have in practice," explained Slusher, who sported a black U of L ball cap while watching the Cardinals.

While neither the Cardinals or Wildcats extended Slusher a scholarship offer during his weekend visit, both indicated that one could be headed his way in the near future.

"U of L and UK both talked about it," Slusher said of a potential scholarship offer. "Louisville told me that they don't just give them out to everybody. They want to make sure you want to come there. They said maybe in another month, which is fine with me, because I don't want to take to long with all of this. I want to be able to focus on my senior season, so I want to make a decision before then."

"UK said that they liked me a lot," continued Slusher. "They're recruiting me as a player that they could use in a couple different places – I guess they're recruiting me as an athlete."

While many suspect that Slusher is a potential college tight end, the All-State performer said that he actually prefers playing on the other side of the ball.

"I love playing linebacker," he said. "I can be a lot meaner on defense. I like playing tight end to, but you have to been in more control on offense, when you can just go crazy and hit people playing linebacker."

Slusher has now made trips to Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Tennessee and Wake Forest this spring and plans on putting even more miles on the family car.

"I'm think I'm going to go to Louisville for their spring game and I'll probably go to Tennessee's spring game too," said Slusher. "I'll probably visit a couple of other places to. I like making the trips because I get to see the different campuses and each place has something different to offer."

Slusher will make another visit to Louisville on May 20 for the Scout.com All-American Combine.
