Cards offer northern Kentucky standout

Newport Central Catholic's Zach Kiernan will attend Saturday's Junior Day

Newport (Ky.) Central Catholic High School lineman Zach Kiernan is just getting his recruiting process kick-started and he's doing so with an impressive early scholarship offer.

"Things are going good so far," explained Kiernan, who's father and uncle played at Notre Dame. "I'm hearing from Louisville mainly - they've already offered me."

Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio State have also expressed an early interest in the 6-foot-6, 240-pound lineman.

Kiernan will visit Louisville this Saturday for the program's Junior Day.

"This will be my first trip like this," said Kiernan, who helped his school to win the Kentucky Class A championship last fall.

Also a standout on the hardwood, Kiernan earned Region 9 All 'A' Classic most valuable player honors after helping lead his team to the region crown.

Kiernan will attend the All-American Combine at Louisville on May 20.
