"I feel like what separates me is my ability to do a lot of things as a linebacker," Barnes said. "I can rush the passer. I can fill holes and I can drop into coverage. I could play strong safety if you wanted me to."
Barnes, 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, has already picked up many offers and he talked about his early favorite.
It's the Auburn Tigers who have the early edge on the rest of the competition.
"Auburn's in the lead because I met their head coach last Tuesday and I really liked him as a person," he said. "He was saying how they're gonna be practicing in the mornings now up there. I like that. He was saying how many of their players graduate and the ratio and that's something I want to be a part of one day. Plus, one of my old teammates, Craig Stevens, is going up there and it'd be cool to play with him again."
Barnes has already received calls from Ole Miss, Louisville, Illinois, and others this week.
