QB Kiel focused on six schools

Columbus (IN) East quarterback Drew Kiel wants to stay relatively close to home for college, and is currently focused on six programs within a short drive of his home. InsideTheVille.com has the latest.

Drew Kiel, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound quarterback prospect at Columbus (Ind.) East High School, is focused on six college football programs: Vanderbilt, Iowa, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois and Louisville.

"I want to stay close, so those are the main schools I am looking at," Kiel said, in a telephone interview Tuesday.

Kiel has not yet received a scholarship offer, but those six schools have been showing him the most interest thus far. All six have visited Columbus East during the spring evaluation period, as have Miami (Ohio) and Southern Illinois. He has received phone calls from Vanderbilt and Purdue and he plans to attend one-day camps at all six of his favorites.

Kiel has already participated in the Elite 8 quarterback camp and Iowa City Scout.com combine this spring. He's set to attend the Scout.com combine in Louisville later this month.
