InsideTheVille.com has learned that the Scout.com four-star center will make a trip to Louisville early next week.
"I think he might be going there for a visit," Thabeet's guardian said Friday afternoon. "I don't know for certain yet. Coach McClannahan just left and they were discussing it - the plan would have him leave for Louisville on Monday evening."
Al Jones, a Houston AAU coach with close ties to Thabeet, also couldn't confirm that the plans were completely finalized.
"That's been talked about, but I'm just not positive that I can confirm that," he explained. "Louisville's definately one of the school's that he wants to visit. He also wants to visit Miami."
However, while neither could say for certain if a visit to Louisville is officially scheduled, Scout.com's Dave Telep spoke with Thabeet Friday evening and confirmed that the Tanzania native will visit the Cardinal program on Tuesday. InsideTheVille.com has since learned Thabeet will arrive in Louisville late Monday night.
"It's all about Rick Pitino with Louisville," said Jones. "His name speaks for itself. He's coached at every level and knows how to get players ready for the NBA. Then again, his system is very guard oriented. So we'll just have to see how Hasheem would fit in there."
Thabeet, and those helping him reach a decision, a closely watching the situation with UConn's Josh Booone. Boone has declared for the NBA Draft, and whether or not the 6-foot-10 center returns to Storrs for another season could have a direct bearing on Thabeet's decision.
"He's looking to go somewhere where he can get significant minutes right away," Jones said. "Of course, what Josh Boone will do could have an impact. You'd have to consider that if Josh returns that would limit Hasheem's minutes next season. That's what he really needs the most - playing time.
Jones also said it's possible the 39th-rated prospect nationall could take more visits. Though Thabeet told Telep he'd likely make a decision late next week.
"If he took a fifth visit it would be a toss-up between Oklahoma State and Florida State," Jones added.
