"I have vision--that's my strength. I can fill a hole pretty quick; and if I see it, I hit it real hard," Merriweather said. "I'm trying to work on my footwork by jumping rope and doing the ladder.
"I went to junior day at Indiana and watched a basketball game. I liked the atmosphere--a lot of people and fan support. I may go to their camp this summer," he said.
"I met the coaches from Nebraska, first when they came to my school and then when I visited (their campus). They were the first to offer.
"I've also visited Missouri and Iowa, and hope to visit Louisville. I went to Iowa's camp on Monday (June 12). The coaches are prestigious--they have reputation, and they're friendly. The recruiting coordinator, Eric Johnson, is real nice," Merriweather said.
"The campus was nice too because everything is close together--the field, tutoring room and I think even the dorms are close by. I'll be talking on the phone with Iowa this Thursday and they are supposed to tell me if they are going to offer me.
"I'm probably going to go through the whole thing (recruiting process). That way I'll see what else comes. Nothing stands out much yet," he said. "I want a school I can trust--where I feel comfortable. I'd like to go to the NFL, but mostly I just want to become a better athlete--for real. And location isn't an issue for me but my parents will probably want me to stay closer to home."
Merriweather can bench press 185 X 15 and claims a 30" vertical jump.
He reports a 2.5 GPA and retook his ACT (17) on June 10.
