'Ville an early leader for top '08 center

Jeff Withey, a 6-10 rising junior center from San Diego, shows all the signs of being one of the best big men in his class. Withey told us that his early leaders are from the Pac-10, Big 12 and Big East conferences . . . .

Jeff Withey, a 6-foot-10 rising junior from San Diego (Calif.) Horizon, is one of the best young post prospects in the west.

Withey has a very good frame and he moves well for a young big man. His offensive game is still developing, but Withey is on track to be a high major prospect.

ScoutHoops.com spoke with Withey recently and asked about the programs he is considering.

"UCLA, Arizona, Boston College, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville and Texas," said Withey.

Asked if any program is particularly strong with him at this point, Withey said, "Kansas, Arizona, UCLA and Louisville would be my early four leaders."

Withey said two programs have offered him a scholarship to date.

"Arizona and Kansas have offered," said Withey.

When questioned about the factors he'll consider when choosing a school, Withey replied, "Someplace where they play inside out – where they get the ball to the big man. Location is not a big issue. I want someplace where I can play right away. I hope to play two years and then go pro."

Withey will be on campus at a couple of his potential schools later this month.

"I'm going to the UCLA elite camp and the Arizona elite camp for two days each," said Withey.

A good student, Withey told us he has a B average.
