Culpepper will join 2005 UL signee at JUCO

Demetrius Culpepper signed two letters of intent last February - one with Louisville and another with East Mississippi C.C. This week, the 6'4, 240-pound defensive lineman will head off to college to join former Louisville signee Steven Black at East Mississippi.

Demetrius Culpepper is headed to East Mississippi Community College this fall instead of the University of Louisville.

Culpepper, one of Louisville's top 2006 signees, failed to meet NCAA academic requirements for freshman eligibility and will enroll in junior college next week, according to East Mississippi C.C. head coach Roger Carr.

"I expect him to be here on July 5," Carr told InsideTheVille.com. "He's scheduled to start taking summer classes this week. He was here for orientation June 10 and he'll get started this week."

Last year, Louisville also stashed WR Steven Black, who signed with the Cardinals out of Vestavia Hills (AL) High School in 2005, at East Mississippi C.C. Now entering his sophomore season, the 6'3, 210-pound Black remains on the Cardinals radar.

"He's come along nicely," Carr said. "He's on track to graduate. Louisville put him here so they're obviously in the mix with him and they'll take a strong look at him this season."

Besides Louisville, Carr said that Oklahoma State, USC, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Mississippi State are showing recruiting interest in Black. Black made 30 catches for 325 yards and 3 touchdowns as a freshman.
