A pre-season NJCAA All-American as a freshman at East Mississippi Community College, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound Black says that he's preparing to finally sign with the program of his choice.
"I'm real firm with the Cardinals," he said. "In fact, I should have the papers to sign with them soon."
Last year as a freshman, Black pulled in 30 catches for 325 yards and 3 touchdowns in six games. After weeks of pre-season preparation, Black is set to return to the field this week.
"Our first game is on Thursday and I'm getting first game jitters, but I'll be al right," said Black of his upcoming game against East Central (Miss.) CC. "It's a big rivalry game for us, so it should be a good one."
Black also added that not having the added pressure of picking a future school is a relief and something that will allow him to focus on the '06 season.
"I'm glad to know where I'm going, plus knowing that they still want me," he said. "Now I just focus on getting better."
Black isn't the only member of the EMCC squad with intentions of becoming a Cardinal. Defensive end Demetrius Culpepper, who verbally committed to Louisville last winter, is Black's roommate and the two have started discussing their future in the Derby City.
"It's pretty good," he said of his budding relationship with Culpepper. "We're becoming real good friends. We talk about being roommates at Louisville."
So, while programs such as Southern Miss and Oklahoma State are expressing interest, does Black consider himself a strong Louisville commitment?
"Oh yeah, definitely," he replied.
As for the other schools that continue to recruit him, the standout receiver has a simple message, "I'm not hearing any of that, I'm trying to be a Cardinal."
