The latest with Luther Davis

Luther Davis is one of the top defensive end prospects in the entire country and the West Monroe, Louisiana star provided with an update on his recruitment. What's the latest with Luther Davis?

"The season's going good so far," Davis said. "We're 5-0 and we have a big game against Byrd this week. We're currently ranked No. 1 in the state."

Davis, 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds, is having an excellent season himself so far. In those five games, Davis is fourth on his team with 36 tackles and he's second on the team with four sacks. He's also blocked a field goal.

On the recruiting front, Davis has taken one official visit and is in the process of setting up some others.

"I went to Louisville a few weeks ago and really enjoyed that," he said. "I watched them play a great game. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give that visit a 15. It's an amazing place. I've been to Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, places like that and Louisville's right there. The people were great. Thousands of fans were screaming our names and they even had signs with our names on them. The people in front of me at the game knew who I was and all my stats and everything. I had never met them a day in my life and they knew all that. I really loved it and felt really comfortable."

Davis hasn't taken any trips since then but he plans on taking an unofficial visit to Dallas this weekend.

"Oklahoma offered me last Tuesday and I'll be going down to watch the Red River Shootout between them and Texas," he said. "I'm really high on them. I thought they'd win the 03 national title when they played LSU. Dan Cody is one of my favorite defensive ends ever since I watched him a few years ago. I may visit them."

Two schools that will definitely get visits are LSU and Southern Cal, although the dates haven't been set yet.

"I'll definitely go to those two," he said. "I talk to LSU each week and they're still on me pretty hard. USC, I'm still interested in them but I recently found out that they have about 6-7 defensive ends on the roster already and I didn't know that."

So with one visit down, two likely to be taken, and another that he plans to take (Oklahoma), who might get the fifth one?

"I'm still looking at Miami," he said. "I like Coach Pannunzio and Coach Shannon. They call a lot. They're kinda down this year but Miami always fights back. They have some great players like Kenny Phillips and Sam Shields but it seems like they need more of them. I didn't see any D-Linemen making any plays either."

Davis said he's looking at two main things in particular when it comes decision time.

"With each school, I'm trying to evaluate a bunch of things," he said. "I'm looking at the location and the opportunity for playing time mainly."

Another program that was heavily involved earlier this year was Florida State. What's the latest with them?

"My friend Ahmad Paige committed to them," he said. "I was with him on Friday but we didn't talk about recruiting. I'm definitely keeping an interest in them."
