Despite a loss to Cincinnati last week, Rutgers currently sits in the driver's seat. The Scarlet Knights, coming of an impressive win over Syracuse, control their destiny in the race for the Big East title. If Rutgers beats West Virginia on the road this Saturday, they'll earn the Big East's BCS bid.
What once appeared a slam dunk for West Virginia, the Mountaineers loss at home last Saturday against South Florida puts an interesting twist on their game with Rutgers. Now out of the BCS mix, which West Virginia team will show up against Rutgers? The explosive Steve Slaton – Pat White team that blew through Georgia last year in the Sugar Bowl or the team that stumbled at home against the Bulls?
If Rutgers slips on the road against West Virginia, and Louisville beats UConn to finish 11-1 overall, and 6-1 in the conference, the Cardinals will win the Big East league title outright and head for the program's first BCS bowl this January. (Note: Louisville will win a share of the Big East title if both Rutgers and Louisville win this weekend.)
The Cards are coming off an impressive 48-24 road win over Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Huskies, coming off a tough 3 point loss to Cincinnati, lost to Louisville 30-20 last season and the Cardinals have won the last two games in the series.
In the polls, Louisville moved up this week to No. 6 in the BCS standings and in the Associated Press poll. The Cardinals checked in at No. 7 in the Harris and USA Today Coaches polls.
