Event held in downtown Louisville was attended by plenty of politicians and supporters

The City of Louisville and University of Louisville took a symbolic large step towards the future on Tuesday morning. U of L President James Ramsey and Athletic Director Tom Jurich were on hand and took part in the groundbreaking for the city's new downtown arena.

In addition to Ramsey and Jurich, Governor Ernie Fletcher, Lt. Governor Steve Pence, Mayor Jerry Abramson, Arena Authority Chairman Jim Host and Metro Council President Kevin Kramer were among those that participated in the groundbreaking.

Actual construction on the arena is scheduled to begin in Summer, 2008. LG & E is in the process of relocating equipment currently on the site, with construction of its new substation beginning in Spring, 2007.

Completion of the arena project is scheduled for November, 2010. For more information and project updates, visit
