McGee making progress

Louisville could really have used point guard Andre McGee last Saturday during a 68-64 loss to Dayton. When the Cardinals will get McGee's services remains uncertain, though the 5-11 sophomore appears to making good progress following knee surgery to repair torn cartilage last week.

"It's really too early to tell (when he'll return)," Rick Pitino said Friday. "He's shooting free throws, doing cardiovascular and his knee looks good. I was hoping he would play by Arizona but that's not going to happen. It wasn't even practical on my part to think that."

The Cardinals play high-scoring Arizona next Tuesday in New York and Pitino wasn't sure whether or not McGee would even make that trip. Doctors said McGee would miss 3-6 weeks after the surgery, and McGee said he's simply taking things one day at time.

"I can't really speculate (when I'll return). I'm just taking it day-by-day right now," McGee said. "I'm off the crutches so my walking is getting better. I think next week I'll probably start jogging more. The week after that I'll probably start sprinting and trying to cut."
