Solomon Thomas sets date for decision

Scout.com three-star defensive end Solomon Thomas of Lakota West High School was among the many unofficial visitors on hand for the Cardinals regular-season finale on Saturday. Thomas spoke with InsideTheVille.com on Monday and broke the news that he has set a date for his college decision.

Scout.com three-star defensive end Solomon Thomas has narrowed his list to three schools - Louisville, Ohio State and Tennessee - and he's planning on giving one of them an extra present on Christmas Day.

"I'm going to make my decision on my birthday, which is the same day as Christmas," Thomas told InsideTheVille.com on Monday. "My mind set going to school this morning was that I was going to commit this coming Saturday, but I talked to my Dad and he told me not to rush into anything, so I'm going to do it on my birthday."

This past Saturday Thomas made his second unofficial visit with Louisville and was in the stands for the Cardinals regular-season finale against Connecticut. On Monday he visited with U of L co-defensive coordinator Mike Cassity and discussed a return trip to the Derby City.

"I just finished talking to Coach Cassity about scheduling my official visit there," said Thomas, who is considering a visit the weekend of the U of L - UK basketball game in Freedom Hall. "My dad can't go this weekend, so I'm going to take an unofficial visit to Ohio State. I've been up to Ohio State ten times over the last six months, I've met the A.D. and everything, so I don't really need to take an official visit there. I'll know tomorrow if I'm going to my official visit to Louisville the next weekend."

Due to his frequent trips to Columbus, Thomas admits that he's currently more comfortable with the surroundings at Ohio State.

"Ohio State is on a different level then everybody right now," explained Thomas, who doesn't claim a leader. "I'm a little more comfortable with them because I've been up there so many times, but I also feel like I could get lost up there and I don't want to just be another number."

He also explained that he has benefited from his previous trips to U of L.

"I'm amazed at what Louisville has done really," he said. "They can play with anybody and I feel like it's a place where I can be comfortable."

While he will be visiting both the Buckeyes and Cardinals during the coming weeks, another school has the potential to make his decision even harder.

"I really wanted to commit to Tennessee, but they already have a couple defensive ends committed there," Thomas explained. "I'm talking to them about going on an official visit there January 19, but I kind of feel like I'm pushing myself into something that's not right for me."
