Palacios, along with sophomore forward Terrence Williams, led Louisville with 16 points as the Cardinals won their third game in three days. Louisville beat Ohio Friday night 74-71 and St. Joseph's 74-64 last night. Williams and Palacios also combined for 19 rebounds, with the 6-5 Williams pulling down 12 for his third career double-double.
"Our main objective in this tournament was to end this thing 5-2 and get on a winning streak," Rick Pitino said. "We did a lot of good things in this tournament and played good enough to win, but we have no chance against UMASS if we play like we did (in this tournament)."
Freshman Derrick Caracter had his best game as a Cardinal, scoring a career-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor.
NABC All-Tournament Team: Ahmad Nivins (St. Joseph's), Jerome Tillman (Ohio), Adam Brames (Bellarmine), Juan Palacios (Louisville) and Terrance Williams (Louisville). Palacios averaged 12.3 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Louisville will host UMASS Wednesday night before taking on Kentucky Saturday afternoon at Freedom Hall.
"We have to play great to beat Massachusetts," Pitino said. "They're one of the top two teams in terms of talent in Atlantic 10. Travis Ford did not schedule Louisville because he wanted to come back home. This is a big test for us this week."
