Mark Barnes set for weekend decision

Richland Northeast (Columbia, SC) 5-star safety Mark Barnes is gearing up to take part in the 70th edition of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolina's this weekend in Spartanburg, SC. However, that is not all on Barnes' mind this week, as he is set to announce his college choice after Saturday's game.

Mark Barnes, who measures in at an athletic 6'3 and 190 pounds, is joined this week by the top high school seniors in the states of North and South Carolina, and he is enjoying every minute of the experience.

"It's pretty cool," said Barnes. "I've met a lot of new people, and we get along real good. Everybody's just trying to come out and have fun and win this game."

The versatile Barnes, who could play either wide receiver or safety on the college level, is seeing the majority of his action at safety this week.

"I feel comfortable back there. Everybody's talking and getting rowdy every once in a while. We're just having a good time on defense."

Although Barnes has played against top flight competition throughout his career at RNE, he recognizes the talent that he is sharing the field with this week.

"It's the best. Everybody comes up here and does their best to show their speed and show their talent. You've just got to enjoy it, because you're going against the best."

When asked what his goals are for Saturday's clash against the North Carolina squad, Barnes said that he's just looking to enjoy the experience.

"Basically my goal is to just have a good time and win this game for all of my teammates. I'm just trying to have fun with them."

Lastly, Barnes talked about his upcoming decision, and confirmed that he will announce his college choice on Saturday afternoon.

"No doubt, I'm making my decision this Saturday. It's still down to South Carolina and Louisville. I'm looking forward to it wherever I go."
