Williams set to decide after Louisville visit

Mat Williams, a three-star tight end prospect from Fort Myers, Florida, is on his way home after making his final official visit to Louisville this weekend. Williams will announce his decision very soon and it appears two programs remain in the mix. Where will Williams end up?

Mat Williams, a three-star tight end from Fort Myers, Florida, will make his college decision sometime early this week, according to his mother, Pamela Williams.

Williams, 6-4, 230-pounds, made his final official to Louisville this weekend. He has also made official visits to South Carolina and Ole Miss and will choose between the Cards, Gamecocks and Rebels this week.

"I think his visit to Louisville went well," Pamela Williams said Sunday afternoon. "He had a great time and really liked his host (starting tight end Gary Barnidge). Coach Petrino is awesome and Louisville has a great program."

Williams said she was "99 percent" certain her son did not make a commitment to Louisville during his visit. "This is his last visit," she said. "I don't know where he's going but he can't go wrong with the schools he is considering. He's always been comfortable with the Louisville coaches and we love Coach (Jeff) Brohm."

Williams said Mat wants to make a decision before Christmas and get his recruitment behind him before he makes a vacation trip to Texas during the holiday. It appears Williams is down to a pair of schools.

"My gut feeling is that it has come down to Louisville and South Carolina," Williams said.

Williams wouldn't venture a guess whether Petrino or South Carolina's Steve Spurrier would win out.
