Rene Perry still visiting?

Defensive tackle Rene Perry of Lake City, Fla., is scheduled for an official visit to Louisville this weekend. Is the 5'10, 260-pound run-stopper still making the trip? InsideTheVille.com has the latest...

The current recruiting dead period, which began before the holidays, will come to an end this weekend and the University of Louisville is set to host a number of talented prospects on official visits. Among the expected group is 5-foot-10, 260-pound defensive tackle Rene Perry of Lake City, Florida.

Not wanting to miss out on an important recruiting weekend, the Cardinals coaching staff, while still being assembled, is busy making sure that those previously scheduled to make the weekend trip are still coming.

"It's still on," Perry told InsideTheVille.com about his pending trip. "I'm going to take visit up to Louisville this weekend."

U of L assistant coach Greg Nord, who appears to be among those from the previous staff that will remain with the program, called Perry shortly after Tuesday's press conference introducing Steve Kragthorpe as the Cardinals new head coach.

"I actually talked to one of their coaches about an hour ago," he said. "I talked to coach Nord and he said that everything is still on for my visit."

Perry, who collected a number of scholarship offers and has already made an official visit with Ball State, says that Petrino‘s departure won‘t play to much of a role in his college decision.

"Not too much, because he had to do what was best for him and the program will continue to go," said Perry. "I've heard that the new coach is pretty good and that he is a real up-and-coming coach."

Perry is also considering an official visit to fellow Big East Conference member South Florida and considers the Bulls, along with Louisville and Ball State, as his finalists.

"It's probably going to be between those three."
