Bilal Powell names favorite

Bilal Powell, a 6-0, 200-pound running back/defensive back from Lake Gibson (FL), came away impressed with his official visit to Louisville and new Cardinal coach Steve Kragthrorpe. Powell spoke with about his official visit and his recruitment Sunday afternoon.

Bilal Powell, a 6-0, 200-pound running back/defensive back from Lake Gibson High in Lakeland, Florida, told Sunday afternoon that he enjoyed his official visit to Louisville over the weekend.

In fact, Powell enjoyed his visit so much that he now lists new coach Steve Kragthorpe's Cardinals as the leader for his services.

"It was a great visit and I was very impressed," Powell said. "Louisville is my top choice because they have been showing me a lot of interest. They have great facilities and I felt like I really fit in good."

Powell had been leaning toward Louisville before Bobby Petrino left for the Atlanta Falcons. Apparently, Powell came away impressed with Kragthorpe.

"He's a real good guy," Powell said of Kragthorpe. "He wasn't pushy and he was really upfront about everything. He's a family guy and I like him a lot."

Though he rushed for more than 2,000 and 26 touchdowns as a senior, Louisville is recruiting Powell, who has run a 4.49 forty, to play cornerback. "That's the position that I really want to play," Powell said.

Powell roomed with Lake Gibson teammate Claude Davis, who also made an official visit, and was hosted by freshman running back Anthony Allen, also a Florida native.

"He's a great guy," Powell said of Allen. "We went out and he showed me around campus a little bit."

Powell will make two more official visits before he makes a decision. Next week, he'll visit Southern Mississippi and will visit Michigan State Jan. 25-26 with Davis.
