"We think it's a great recruiting class. We're excited about the group that we signed. We signed 15 guys and we'll that supplement that with four players that we brought in this semester who were greyshirted," Kragthorpe said. "When you look at this class from top to bottom, it has a lot of speed and power and a lot of athleticism."
Those four greyshirts are WR Josh Chichester, OL Ryan Kessling, OL Hector Hernandez and TE Zach Meagher and they're already enrolled at U of L. Chichester and Meagher were both four-star prospects last season.
The Cardinals also addressed several immediate needs, particularly on defense and at quarterback. U.S. Army All-America quarterback Matt Simms signed with the Cardinals Wednesday morning and two of the best junior college defenders – LB Willie Williams and CB Woodny Turenne – figure to make an immediate impact next season.
"I think this is a group that has a lot of depth, a lot of speed and size to it, and an excellent quarterback in Matt Simms," Kragthorpe said. "We're excited about the future and what it holds for us at U of L."
Here are Steve Kragthorpe's comments about the 15 members of Louisville's 2007 recruiting class:
Doug Beaumont: "He's a very exciting and he'll play the slot receiver position for us. He's a dynamic player and we'll utilize him a lot of different ways to get the ball to him."
Victor Anderson: "He has great speed and explosiveness. He can do dynamic things with the ball in his hands. He's a multi-purpose back who can take it the distance."
Zach Kiernan: "He's a big, strong, physical player that we'll play on the defensive line. He's up to about 262-pounds."
Greg Tomcyzk: "He plays very physically and he's very athletic."
Dale Martin: "He's a dynamic guy with the ball in his hands. He's a power runner and he's a tough guy. He does a good job utilizing his blockers and he has great vision."
Willie Williams: "I think a lot of Willie as a person. He and I kind of connected on his visit. He's had some challenges in the past, but those are behind him. He plays with passion, puts pressure on the passer and can make plays sideline to sideline."
Mark Wetterer: "He's an athletic offensive lineman. He's big and physical and I'm excited about him because he can play multiple positions. He can play either tackle or guard."
Woodny Turenne: "He's a big, tall, physical corner. One of the best matchups you'll see in fall camp will probably be Mario against (Woodny). He's a very good cover corner, but he'll also knock your head off."
Patrick Grant: "He's an excellent athlete who has run a 4.3 forty. We'll use him first at linebacker and we think he can have a big impact on special teams. He's big and athletic and he can really run."
Chaz Thompson: "He has excellent ball skills and is a very athletic corner. He should help us with our depth in the backfield next year because he has excellent ball skills."
Bilal Powell: "He's a dynamic return man and we're going to play him at defensive back."
Josh Miller: "Josh will play wide receiver for us. He's very elusive and explosive and is very dynamic with the ball in his hands. He's a big, physical target."
Matt Simms: "He's a great competitor and comes from a great pedigree. He's serious about football and he can make all the throws. He can put it outside the numbers and he can run with the ball."
C.J. Peake: "He's a free safety and it's very good news that we signed him."
