University of Louisville head coach Dan McDonnell was victorious in his first outing as the Cardinals skipper inside the friendly confines of Jim Patterson Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a frequent drizzle, the U of L bats were hot from the outset and after spotting Murray State a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Cardinals flew past the visiting 'Breds for a 12-2 victory.

The Cardinals, who totaled 15 hits and plated at least one run in all but fifth inning, had seven players enjoy multi-hit days. Senior center fielder Logan Johnson, who is one of seven players in the Big East Conference that were selected to the preseason Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year watch list, led Louisville with two home runs, driving in five.

In addition to Johnson's impressive outing, Boomer Whiting, who accounted for three runs, Daniel Burton, Jorge Castillo, Pete Rodriguez, Isaiah Howes and Derrick Alfonso all had two hit performances. Burton's 2 for 4 outing upped his team-leading batting average to .444 on the season.

Six Cardinal pitchers combined for a five hitter, recording 10 strikeouts and walking just three in the win. Sophomore Andrew Salgueiro, who struck out three during his two innings of work, earned his first win of the young season.

The win evens U of L's season record at 2-2. The Cardinals will head to Florida this weekend for a three game set at Stetson (6-2), which has claimed a pair of early wins over previously-ranked LSU and previously undefeated South Florida. U of L will return to Jim Patterson Stadium on Wednesday, February 28 to face in-state foe Morehead State. Admission is free.
