Louisville will have a short drive for their first round NCAA Tournament game. The Cardinals received a No. 6 seed in the South region and will play 11-seed Stanford Thursday at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Cardinals, 23-9, lost to Pittsburgh Friday night in the Big East semifinals and return to the NCAA Tournament after missing out on the Big Dance last season. If Louisville gets past Stanford Thursday, they would face the winner of the No. 3 Texas A&M / No. 14 Pennsylvania game Saturday.

Big Ten champion Ohio State received the No. 1 seed in the South, while Conference USA champion Memphis is the second seed. If Louisville wins their first two games in Lexington, they could meet old rival Memphis in the Sweet 16.

Six Big East teams made the 65-team tournament field. Big East regular-season and tournament champion Georgetown is the No. 2 seed in the East region, while Marquette is the No. 8 seed. No. 9 Villanova will play No. 8 Kentucky in the first round in Chicago in the West region. Pittsburgh is the No. 3 seed in the West. Notre Dame received the No. 6 seed in the Midwest.

Only the ACC (7) put more teams into the tournament than did the Big East.
