Cards offer Pleasure Ridge Park lineman

Pleasure Ridge Park defensive lineman Brandon Newman tells InsideTheVille.com that his list of scholarship offers now includes the hometown Cardinals.

The offer sheet for Pleasure Ridge Park's Brandon Newman is getting longer and more impressive by the day. The hometown Louisville Cardinals are the latest to offer the 6'1, 305 pound defensive lineman a scholarship.

"Louisville offered me yesterday," Newman told InsideTheVille.com on Friday evening. "Coach Kragthorpe sent me a text message asking me to give him a shout and when I called, he offered."

Prior to Louisville's offer, Newman had collected scholarship invitations from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Mississippi, Notre Dame and Stanford.

"Coach Kragthorpe told that it took this long because when he got here he wanted to evaluate everything," said Newman. "He told that I'd be a great fit there, both in and out of football. I wasn‘t really worried about when they would offer or if they would. It‘s a big honor just be have them interested in me."

As a junior Newman totaled 68 tackles, with 22 going for loss, and earned 2nd Team All-State honors. He also currently holds a 3.9 GPA.

Newman stressed that he'd like to visit as many of the school's that offer as possible. He visited Louisville last Sunday and has plans to visit a few others during the coming days.

"I'm going up to UK on Saturday to watch them practice," said Newman. "Joker Philips sent a text asking me to come up and I didn't have anything going on, so I'm going up there. I'm going to Notre Dame on Wednesday and Coach Kragthorpe asked me to come by next week, so I may go by there Thursday or Friday."

Newman, who is also drawing interest from Alabama, Miami and Michigan, is in no rush to make a college decision.

"I'm not in a hurry to make a decision at all," he said. "My coach always tells me to make sure that I go somewhere where I am comfortable both on and off the field. You never know, an injury could end your career, so how comfortable I am with the place off the field is important to me."
