After a very physical 85-90 play scrimmage Saturday afternoon, Steve Kragthorpe put his team through an abbreviated practice session Monday afternoon at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

The Cardinals practice was cut short because of the All-Sport banquet Monday evening, but before heading to the KFEC for some evening festivities, Kragthorpe put his players through an hour and a half workout.

Louisville practiced in shorts with shoulder pads. They spent the first part of practice conditioning and working on special teams, paying particular attention to technique. Kragthorpe then threw in some 7-on-7 skeleton drills – senior wide receiver Harry Douglas once again was unstoppable, making a touchdown grab on a post pattern and hauling in a pass on a deep out route.

Notes

After missing time during Saturday's scrimmage, defensive backs Johnny Patrick and Latarrius Thomas were back on the field. Bobby Buchanan was dressed, but did not practice. He spent most of practice riding the exercise bike behind the north end zone.

Defensive lineman Maurice Mitchell, fullback Joe Tronzo (ankle), and linebacker Malik Jackson also are nursing injuries. Those three did not practice.

Tight end Sam Gardner, who originally signed with Michigan State out of high school and enrolled at U of L in January, apparently left the team last week.

The Cardinals will be in pads Tuesday and will practice Wednesday. The annual spring game will be played Friday evening at PJCS to conclude spring practice.
