6'8 Kevin Jones from Mt. Vernon, NY is starting to make a name for himself on the AAU circuit while playing or the Westchester Hawks. Last weekend was no different at the King James Classic in Akron, Ohio.

Jones is a very well rounded basketball player that relies on a variety of skills to get the job done on the court.

On Friday night I sat next to Kevin as he watched a few teams play and this is what the soft spoken Jones had to say about Louisville.

"I'm honored to have an offer from Coach Pitino," Jones said. "He is a legend and he has proven to be able to produce players. It would be great to play for him.

"I feel that my strengths are running the floor, my post play and the ability to hit open jump shots. I think I have the ability to play in any system whether it's up and down or a half court motion offense. I'm working daily on improving my off the dribble moves because I want to play the 3 at the next level."

Jones said he knows about the New York Connection at Louisville. He said that he knows Lamont Jones and Melquan Bolding and that they are both great players. And even though he doesn't know Edgar Sosa and Derrick Caracter personally he has followed there progress over the years.

Jones says that the recruiting progress has picked up after he averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds and 3 assist during his junior year. "I have offers from Louisville, Syracuse, St. Joes, UMass, Indiana, Memphis, Pittsburgh and a few others," he said. Jones lists no favorites and is hoping to have a Top 5 by the start of his senior year. "Right now I'm just worried about getting better in my individual workouts and helping my team win championships."

On Sunday morning, Jones scored 29 points as he led the Westchester Hawks to a 71-65 win over the Michigan Mustangs. Jones scored in the post, in transition, from 15 feet and also knocked down two threes in the game, one coming with about 1:00 left in the game to seal the victory for the Hawks.

Jones is not an explosive athlete but he has great hands and a great feel for the game. If his body catches up with his skill set he is going to be a very productive player at the next level. Kevin told me he does follow the rankings and he hopes to move up in the future and with games like this he isn't hurting his chances.
