McCarty joins Pitino's staff

It didn't take long for Louisville coach Rick Pitino to name a replacement for former assistant Marvin Menzies. In fact, Pitino welcomed former Kentucky and NBA player Walter McCarty to his staff Friday morning before New Mexico State formally introduced Menzies as their next head coach.

McCarty, a ten-year NBA veteran, starred on Pitino at Kentucky from 1993-96 and help lead the Wildcats to the 1996 NCAA Championship before heading off for a successful stint in the National Basketball Association with the Boston Celtics.

Menzies, who joined Louisville's staff two years ago, will be introduced as New Mexico State's head coach at a 3:00 p.m. press conference Friday afternoon in Las Cruces. He replaces Reggie Theus, now the head coach of the Sacramento Kings. Ironically, it was Menzies who replaced Theus at Louisville when the former NBA star left Pitino's program to take over the struggling Aggies program.

McCarty joins former Kentucky teammate Steve Masiello and Richard Pitino on the Louisville bench.

Stay tuned for more on Walter McCarty's hiring to the Louisville basketball staff…..
