Javontae Boyd interested in Louisville

With seven verbal commitments – all from offensive players – in the Class of 2008, the Louisville Cardinals are looking for some talented defenders to balance out their haul. Javontae Boyd, a three-star defensive tackle from St. Petersburg, Florida, would certainly fit the bill. InsideTheVille.com has the latest on the 6-3, 300-pound standout.

Javontae Boyd has been out of the recruiting loop for the past two weeks. You see, the star St. Petersburg, Florida lineman had phone trouble and couldn't be reached by college coaches looking to recruit him. When his service was restored, Boyd found his message service quite full.

There were messages from California, Rutgers, Clemson and a host of other big-time college football programs. Just the usual run of the mill stuff that an athletic 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive tackle with unusual speed and quickness of the ball has to deal with.

"I don't ever give up on plays – I'm relentless," said Boyd.

Boyd said he currently holds 11 offers, including one from Louisville. South Florida, Georgia, California, Rutgers and Clemson have also offered. Reportedly, Georgia, Clemson and South Carolina top Boyd's list. However, Boyd said Tuesday he's not ready to narrow things down right now.

"I'm wide-open," Boyd said. "I'm more focused on the upcoming season and getting my academics (together)."

As for Louisville, Boyd says he wants to learn more about the Cardinals.

"Louisville is a good school," Boyd said. "I don't know a lot about them but I want to look into them more."

Boyd has yet to schedule any official visits, but said there's one school he'll definitely want to see this fall before making his college decision.

"I definitely want to visit Georgia," he said. "I would like to go out of state for college. I want to play for a good team – one that wins (consistently). I just want to go to a school and have fun."
