Practice Report: Turenne makes quick impact

It didn't take junior college transfer Woodny Turenne long to make his presence felt on the field. Turenne was cleared to play Friday and by Saturday's practice was already making an impact at cornerback.

Woodny Turenne

It didn't take junior college transfer Woodny Turenne long to make his presence felt. Turenne was cleared to play Friday and by Saturday's practice he was already making an impact at cornerback. During the three plays I focused on Turenne during one-on-one WR/DB drills, Turenne broke up two passes. Later, during 7-on-7's, Turenne picked off another pass.

It's easy to see that Turenne is a special talent. He has no problem running step for step with Harry Douglas and Jajuan Spillman, possesses great closing speed and has the ability to make plays on the ball. Expect Turenne to see lots of playing time this fall.

Doug Beaumont

Don't be surprised if true freshman wide receiver Doug Beaumont sees action this season. He's getting quality reps with the offense and he's making plays when he has the opportunity. You can tell watching him that he understands how to get open and when the ball is near him he's proven an extremely reliable pass receiver. The future looks bright for Beaumont.

C.J. Peake

Another true freshman who might see early action is safety C.J. Peake. Peake has impressive size and has shown excellent closing speed on the ball. He seems to have good instincts and made an interception during 7-on-7's.

News and Notes

  • A large crowd of several hundred fans turned out for Saturday evenings last open practice.
  • Three-star Trinity lineman Sam Robey visited practice Saturday. Robey holds offers from both Louisville and Kentucky.
  • Scott Long and Jajuan Spillman continue to look impressive during practice. Long has clearly moved up to the No. 3 WR slot behind Harry Douglas and Mario Urrutia. He made several plays down field Saturday and has been consistent catching the ball when it's thrown in his direction. If Long is No. 3, Spillman isn't far behind.
  • Junior college transfer Abdul Kuyateh received clearance to begin practicing Saturday. Though by rules he's not allowed to wear shoulder pads until he's practiced twice, Kuyateh was on the field participating in offensive line drills.
