Papa John gives UL $10 million for expansion

Louisville athletic director Ton Jurich announced Monday that Papa John's has given U of L $10 million for expansion of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. What does this gift mean for PJCS expansion. has details.

The University of Louisville announced today that Louisville-based Papa John's, and it founder John Schnatter, have committed $10 million toward the expansion of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. It is the single largest gift ever made to U of L Athletics, and brings the total support of the University by Papa John's over the last ten years to more than $20 million.

"This shows the commitment from our lead sponsor and creates a lot of momentum for this project," said U of L Athletic Director Tom Jurich.

Louisville football coach Steve Kragthorpe said that expansion of PJCS will have a major impact on his program. "This is a tremendous day for U of L football," Kragthorpe said, noting that expansion would be great for fans and his program's recruiting efforts.

Jurich again said the timeline for the project remains for the 2010 season. Jurich said the project is now entirely in the hands of the state legislature. He said that January will be the next opportunity for the legislature to approve expansion.
